Head Sommelier/Partner
Acclaimed sommelier, wine expert and operations savant Allegra Angelo joined Vinya Hospitality at its inception in 2019. In the role of Head Sommelier, she oversees the beverage programs for all the brand’s holdings, which include Vinya Table in Coral Gables, Vinya Wine & Market Key Biscayne, Vinyawine.com, and Casa Mariano restaurant in Doral. With over 20 years of experience in luxury hospitality, wine, beverage and branding experience, she stands among the region’s foremost hospitality professionals.
Prior to joining the Vinya team, Angelo served as a sommelier at La Mar by Gaston Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami. In fact, her South Florida roots run deep, having served for five years as wine director for James Beard Award-winning chef/restaurateur Michelle Bernstein. Later, as beverage director for 50 Eggs Hospitality Group, she developed the wine and spirits programs for Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, Khong River House, and Swine Southern Table & Bar, all located in Miami.
Angelo began her hospitality career in New York City at the famed restaurant Jean-Georges. In San Francisco, where she garnered experience in several roles including wine director for Chef Mark Liberman, she earned a 2-glass “Best of Award of Excellence.” Her bona fides also trickle over in the world of journalism as Angelo has also put pen to paper for SommSelect, the sommelier-curated publication and wine subscription under the editorial direction of James Beard Award-Winning writer and sommelier, David Lynch.
A graduate of Emory University and the Culinary Institute of America, she earned an Advanced Sommelier Certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas in 2012. Additional accolades include winning the 2016 America’s Top|Somm Competition, a national competition for wine service professionals administered under the framework of the Guild of Sommeliers as well as having successfully completed the Master Sommelier Diploma Examination in all areas.
At Vinya, Angelo continues to write, teach through tastings and more from Vinya’s rotating calendar of events, and above all, inspire her team, guests, and the South Florida community to find their wine “bug.” Among her daily duties: overseeing beverage inventory and sales, sourcing unique products, developing and hosting an array of diverse activations, and spearheading special initiatives such as the production of The Vinya Gazette (an in-house printed newsletter); a Vinya Market pop-up location at Time Out Market Miami and the management of Vinya’s private wine label.
