Chef Shelly’s culinary journey traces back to her earliest food memory of her Grandma frying dumplings and selling box lunches from their childhood home. This formative moment planted a seed for a decade-long career in the food industry.
Drawing inspiration from an array of diverse and meaningful experiences, Chef Shelly co-founded 2 Girls & a Cookshop in 2018 with daughter Jataun. A testament to their shared passion for culture, connection, and community through food. The team blends traditional Jamaican cuisine with New York’s melting pot. The ethos of 2 Girls is Jamaica’s national motto, ‘Out of Many, One People,’, mirroring Chef Shelly’s cooking style, ‘Out of Many, One Cultures.
2 Girls & a Cookshop serves Jamaican Tacos and Diasporic Street Food with acclaimed dishes like the Jerk Chicken Dinner Taco, Jerk Birria, and Curry Crunch Street Corn. Chef Shelly and the dynamic team have earned accolades from Food Network NYCWFF for Best Taco, appeared on Fox’s MasterChef and The Great Food Truck Race, and been recognized by outlets like the New York Times and Elvis Duran Morning Show.
