Chef David Bracha has spent more than three decades shaping Miami’s dining scene with his dedication to quality, consistency and genuine hospitality. As chef and owner of The River Oyster Bar, a Brickell institution since 2003, Bracha continues to serve exceptional seafood in a warm, welcoming environment.
A New York native, Bracha began his culinary career working in bakeries as a teenager before earning a degree in hotel and restaurant management from City Tech. He honed his craft under acclaimed New York chefs, including Roger Fessaguet and Michael Romano at the legendary La Caravelle, and later at J.P. Morgan’s executive dining rooms and Lola’s Café in Manhattan.
Drawn by the opportunity of a growing food scene, Bracha relocated to South Florida, where he worked alongside Norman Van Aken and Proal Perry before opening his first restaurant, Four One One Restaurant & Bar, at age 28. The concept helped pioneer South Beach’s early dining movement. He later partnered with Tobacco Road owner Patrick Gleber to launch Fishbone Grill, with locations in Brickell and Coral Gables.
Seeing promise in Brickell long before it transformed into a bustling dining and business district, Bracha opened The River Oyster Bar, a seafood-forward bistro devoted to expertly sourced, sustainable ingredients. Guided by a straightforward philosophy — to offer exceptional food and service in a sophisticated yet unpretentious atmosphere — he helped establish Brickell as a true dining destination.
After facing a yearlong closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, The River reopened in 2021 in a new Brickell location, stronger and more beloved than ever. Bracha credits the restaurant’s longevity to its loyal guests and commitment to community.
When he’s not in the kitchen, Bracha enjoys fishing, diving, exercising, cooking with family and friends, and restoring his historic home.
